Q: What tradition, craft, etc, makes Christmas special for you?
I'm trying to make our holidays as special as possible. Me and my kids have been through a lot the last couple of years. Including my divorce. I would love to know what makes it special and memorable for you and your kids. Any suggestions for the days before Christmas? Thanks all in advance!!

A: There are so many ideas on what to do with your kids but its not really what you do that is important, its how you do it. Last year me and my sisters made a gingerbread house, taking goofy photos and my little sister going crazy with the icing but it wasn't as much fun as it could have been because my mum wasn't there doing it with us. but on the other hand the day before that she took us all to the ice-rink, not that far from our house and just putting on our scarfs and gloves made it feel "Christmasy" ! but some ideas of what you could do would be; 1. something they enjoy (eg.)don't make them sit down and do a christmas puzzle if they're not going to enjoy it, let them choose a christmas movie or offer to buy ingredients for baking a Christmas cake (etc) 2. make christmas cards! if you and your kids are creative this will be a lot of fun. All you need is some card, crafts pens or stencils and glitter. you can make tonnes of cute and arty cards to send to All your friends and relatives! 3. of course what is christmas without that "special " tree ?? So try new things like hanging polaroid pictures of your family on the branches and things they may have made at school. 4. Treat yourselves! What we do every year on christmas eve every year is open one (and only one!) present each but obviously your not going to want them to open somthing too exciting before they go to bed! so mabey give them each a soft toy that suit their intrests eg. a rag doll or a lion. 5. finaly, Children wont believe in santa forever so make the most of it! Most adults wont remember what it is like to really belive. But christmas is supposed to be a magical time, so make it one to remember! Hope I helped x

Q: elementary school christmas social coming up. any great ideas to make it memorable and fun for kids & parents
I am planner for an elementary school Christmas winter social. Any ideas to make it memorable and fun for both parents and students? Food ?entertainment? crafts? surprises?

A: Why don't you have each child bring a pack of pencils and donate to The Pencil Project. (One school helping another) It will really let them get into the spirit of the season and learn about giving. Learn more at www.thepencilproject.com

Q: christmas package for homeless kids?
me and 3 friends want to make some packages for homeless kids we would take them to a shelter before christmas, we have a budget of about $45 we wanted to make at least for packages. we were thinking about making some blankets and buy fabric from the craft store, giving them some old clothes and toys of ours(like things we never got around to wearing or using b/c of school or because the clothes were too small), getting some of those cheap tooth brushes like the ones from the dentist (maybe a dentist will donate some), and i am going to make some pepper mint bark. do you have anymore ideas. please note that the packages are mainly for kids. im only 13 so i dont have a job, my mom doesnt work and my dad owns a small business, most of the people who work for him laugh at my ideas

A: It's really nice of you to be doing this and it's the thought that counts...but here are some suggestions you might find helpful! What about Books, or Coloring books, crayons, pencils notebooks, or stickers, there not that expensive and im sure the kids will like them!! If you rather get them toys im sure Barbies for girls and match box cars for the boys would be cool!!!!!!!!!

Q: Christmas craft projects?
My kids are 10, 5, and 3. Does anyone have any suggestions for good projects they can do as Christmas presents for the grandparents?

A: you can buy clear craft ornaments at hobby lobby. then buy a few colors of acrylic paints. remove the top of the ornaments, then pour a little of the paint in. swirl it around, add more colors if you want. they actually turn out really pretty. you could also get some paint pens and write "grandma or grandpa" on them. or let each child make one and then write their name on them. the older one might enjoy those pot holder weaving looms, he could make some red and green ones for christmas. you could have them pose for funny pictures and then create a scrapbook personalized for each family member.

Q: Childrens Christmas Party Ideas?
We're hosting a Christmas party for our son & his classmates next month and I need some fun ideas. The age range is 4 & 5 year olds. We've got crafts, and Santa coming.. but what other ideas for a kids Christmas party?

A: Game ideas: -->Pin The Nose on Rudolph -->Sandbag Santa Draw or paint a Santa face on a piece of wood or stiff cardboard. Cut an opening where Santa's mouth goes, and then lean it against a wall so that there is open space behind Santa's mouth. Have the children take turns “feeding“ Santa by tossing sandbags, beanbags, or Christmas candy into his mouth. The child who gets the most items into Santa's mouth is the winner. -->Hit the Christmas pinata -->Make christmas ornaments -->Make ginger bread cookies -->Santa Freeze...kids dance to music and have to freeze when music stops...if they are still moving when music stops they are out..play till last kid standing or so Deocorating ideas: "Winter Wonderland" Theme -->light blue, white, silver -->hang snowflakes from the ceilings --> other ideas http://www.evite.com/app/cms/ideas/winter-wonderland --> Outside of ur house maybe have signs like "Santa Stop Here" or "Reindeer crossing" etc. Food: -->Cupcakes, cookies (with trees, wreaths, snowman, etc. on them) http://www.bhg.com/holidays/gallery/holiday-cookies/ --> Sandwiches shaped into christmas shapes

Q: What crafts can I make for a church bazaar?
There is a Christmas bazaar coming up at my church (early November) and I'm trying to figure out what I can make for it. I just joined this church, so I haven't ever seen what other people make/do. From what I hear, a lot of it is stuff that the kids can buy for presents for Christmas. The money raised goes to the church. Does anyone have ideas for something(s) I can make that A) won't take a really long time and B) won't break the bank! Thanks.

A: Ever heard of kumihimo? It is Japanese braiding. It is done on a foam disk, it is easy quick and you can make bracelets , necklaces, key tags quickly. You can add beads if you want. try knitting some slippers I have a pattern that knits up really quickly on big needles an they look great. Knitted hand bags on big needles are good too and young girls love them. I have also knitted ties and belts , quick dont use a lot of wool and useful. Knit covers for ipods and mobile phones.

Q: Chistmas Crafts? Help!!!?
I need to know or get some ideas of christmas crafts that i can do at our family christmas. I am i charge of supervising and helping the kids. What should we do. I had some ideas like decorating orniments, or manets but what do u think?

A: Michaels has a nice selection of decorations to do. The kids will love it. My kids love making decorations for our tree. And I have every one they have ever made. When we decorate the tree, we talk about when each one was made. or you can get one of the reindeer, that Michaels sells, and glue it to a piece of cardboard, and have the kids glue, poinsettias and small decorations around it for a centerpiece for the table.

Q: My friends all have children, they seem to think i have not bought enough for my kids xmas presents?
My friend recently made a comment, that i had not bought much for my kids for christmas. She went on, about the toys i could of bought him, and also what she had bought her kids. I now have been left to think, maybe i am being a scrouge, after all, she has got her kids a big 9v car. My kids asked for starwars..., i have got this but i am now left to wonder whether she is right...? The main present is: 1.) star wars lego spaceship (http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/TruOrFindUsing/TruAZOfBrands/TruToysStarWars/TruToysStarWarsLego/120359?ref=Search ) 2.) Star wars lego number 2 game(playstation) 3.) Cars game 4.) Construct a aeroplane craft toy 5.) A set of clothing (jumper, t-shirt and jeans). Stocking filler: a cars toy with sweets. She is not the only person that has made a comment, all my other friends, seem to be agreeing with her, and telling me that i havent got them that much this year around...

A: Well i personally think that they are not very good friends to be saying stuff like this, if for whatever reason you decide to buy a little less than them for your child then that is your business. I have told each of my children this year that they can have one thing each as my house is literally full of unwanted and broken toys, such a waste. You are buying your child what he wants and you don't need to feel guilty about that. I would choose my friends very carefully in future.

Q: Is it safe to sell people lip gloss that was made a year ago?
I have a lot of lip gloss left over that I made for the Christmas craft fair last year. It has natural oils and a perservative which is liquid germall. It's been sealed in containers that were santized with boiling water before filling. Is it okay to sell it or could there be killer bacteria growing in there after a year? They are popular with little kids so I don't want to take unneccessary risks.

A: When in doubt, make more ;-) Don't take the risk... although personally I keep makeup far longer than I'm supposed to and it's never bothered me.

Q: Christmas presents for a 4 year old UK please?
I need some ideas please...what things do your 4 or 5 year olds like? My little girl has a bike, and a pram and a dolls house already..she's not a kitchen type of kid...she likes crafts, dancing and drawing....what's good?

A: Will send you the link to what we have bought Erin. She will be five in Dec and is mad on drawing and making. I've already got this at home (hidden in the loft) and it's great as it doesn't take a lot of space once folded :) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rose-Art-49162UN-RoseArt-Smart/dp/B000Q41VLM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=toys&qid=1226255143&sr=8-2 I've also got a load of stuff from yellow moon like markers, glitter glue, various papers, glittery pompoms etc. These twistables are really good: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crayola-Twistables-Case-32-Pack/dp/B000EBBJDW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=kids&qid=1226255310&sr=1-5

Q: Need fun, educational, creative winter craft proj. that can be given as a gift to kids age 4-10, please read on?
Ok. I am boycotting all the uneducational gifts given each year for birthdays and Christmas in my family. There are many kids, and since I will be a teacher soon- buying video games does not feel right anymore. My last creative project was a gardening theme. I put together buckets with matching shovels, gloves and watering cans with a wide variety of seeds for each child plant, and a gardening themed picture book to make the gifts complete. I am planing for Christmas, and I am coming up with nothing! Help! I want some kind of hands-on educational craft project for the kids, and of course, I will find a children's book to accompany the concept of the overall gift. We live in Las Vegas, so anything in the snow is not the best idea. We have Mt. Charleston, but it's an hour drive, and not many of the parents have vehicles that could make the trip up in the snow. Thank you for your suggestions and time! :)

A: What about a mixing bowl, measuring cup, measuring spoons and a simple cookbook with the ingredients to make something in the cookbook. If your flush, an apron would be a fun addition. You can do this to fit the various ages.

Q: Things to do at christmas?
I love christmas, and I like to make the season last as long as possible by fitting in loads of activities. I'm not one who enjoys rest. Here's what I've got so far: 22.11 - Dinner out 5pm, Xmas lights switch on 6pm. 7pm - 9pm shopping for decorations 02.12 - Christmas craft fayre 04.12 - Another xmas fayre 07.12 - Meal out with family 14.12 - Meal out with work 15.12 - Go to cinema with kids to see Fred Claus What else can I do??? So many days to fill!!! Chris B, didn't your mummy ever tell you if you can't say anything nice not to say anything? I think it's past your bed time now little boy. Oh and don't preach to me, and DO NOT EVER EVER EVER TELL ME THAT I DON'T BELIEVE IN OR WORSHIP JESUS CHRIST! DON'T EVER TELL ME THAT

A: My friends and family just take for granted that i will host an open house on Christmas eve....It starts with lunch ...People come and go all day! They bring pitchers of drinks and I have a constant buffet out all day, from finger sandwiches to pizzas to shrimp, baked clams, chips and dips, fondue, pigs in a blanket(kids),Asparagus spears with Parmesan cheese rolled in crescent dough,.tiny meatballs in gravy(etc... you get the idea),some sort of creamy soup, like beer-cheese or she crab, shrimp or Lobster Bisque, and Christmas cookies. The heavier foods come out more towards the "dinner hours" and then at 9pm we all go to my neighbor's church (they have an antique church on their property and all the neighbors go and sing Christmas carols for a few hours....You can host something like this at your house. it is fun and all your friends and family stop by... I highly recommend it. Your kids can help you prepare all the food for the up-coming "party" in the weeks/days before the event while learning to cook, Learning about family traditions, and listening to Christmas music,... decorating the house with you and spending quality time with you. (not movie theater time where they learn nothing and no inter-action with each other, although it is fun) P.S. right after Thanksgiving start making a home made gingerbread house. you will have it to enjoy all season. and with the kids helping you prepare for the party it will be greatly anticipated by all involved!... Buy nice jar candles or somthing (or make home-made candles or whatever) and have the kids wrap them and place by the door to give to your guests a christmas gift as they leave. have a wonderful, safe, holiday season

Q: Christmas stocking ideas?
All right, im getting all my stuff ready to decorate for Christmas and all of my stocking are different from each other. I thought it would be fun to make my own stockings this year so we all have matching ones. So, I need to make one for me, my husband, our son and daughter (son is 4 daughter is 2) our 2 dogs and our 2 cats. I know im probably weird to hang stockings for the pets but I am! lol Anyway, I want something different. Im not great at sewing but I can do a little bit. I was thinking along the lines of buying plain stockings at the dollar store then doing something to make them personalized. I tried googling it but I cant find anything I care for, not to mention hardly any pictures. So, any help would be very appreciated, thanks!!! (any other christmas craft ideas would be great as well, something that my kids and I can do together - but mainly im looking for stocking ideas)

A: We bought cheap red stockings from the dollar store and bought a variety of Christmas colored sparkly paint and we each decorated our own. This may not work for the animals but you could improvise and draw like a bone on the dogs, etc... Now, every year when we take them out we talk about the day we made - GREAT MEMORIES! Happy Holidays!

Q: Craft for kids that can be given as gifts...?
I babysit 3 little boys ages 5, 4, and 2. Each year we do some kind of project for their parents for christmas. Does anyone have any ideas for a good craft present. They makes crafts all of the time so I am looking for a special and different craft. Thanks :)

A: Anything with their hand print or footprints are great gifts. You could get a plate and have the kids stamp their hands and you could decorate it for Xmas - it can even be fired and food safe. Or get cheap tiles from a tile store and you could frame them or make them into a trivet. You could also get an unfinished wooden tray, make a collage of their pictures, drawings, letters, etc. and modpodge them. Wrap it up with a homemade stamped stationery set the kids make or a magazine and coffee cup for a nice little package. What about polymer clay ornaments of their family? The kids could make individuals or the family into one ornament, stick a piece of wire into it before it dries and voila - instant artwork and Christmas memory.
