Q: Who does the most to get ready for Christmas at your house?
I do most everything, Christmas cards, shopping, baking, cooking, decorating inside the house, plans for Christmas Day/dinner, tree trimming, etc. My husband does the outdoor lights/decorations and puts the tree in the stand and the lights on. How about your house? Just curious if it's usually a woman in your house who does most everything.

A: For the presents, it would definitely be me. I'm a present maniac. I love giving and I love getting, lol. For the tree, it's probably me and my dad Dinner - definitely my dad We don't usually have outdoor lights/decorations Last year we had a woman come to our house and she decorated the inside BEAUTIFULLY and she filled up jars with candy canes and M&Ms. My mom and my sister are also a bit of present people. Well my dad too. I guess we all are, lol. ^_^ What about you? =]

A: For tables outdoor you can use wrapping paper with snowflakes and you can also rent a snow machine if you want and get some on the ground or something, and throwing the party at night would be nice too.

Q: Travel to Bern, Switzerland for Dec 27 - Jan 2 What are the top "must do" while we are there?
I would like some suggestions of where to go and what to see, We are interested in seeing the quintessential, picturesque, charming side of Switzerland. Perhaps charming snow covered Alpine villages with cobblestone streets, or breath taking mountain views (by rail?), romantic dining, Christmas lights and decorations, and a New Years Eve event. We do not ski, but are interested in other outdoor activites. (Sleigh ride, snow moblie, other suggestions) Day trips by rail to other nearby areas. Any suggestions for the perfect winter getaway. Also, any suggestions on hotels in Bern. We prefer 5 star hotels.

A: Hello Switzerland is an amazing place to visit, to be specific bern is amazing. Bern by itself is a cobblestone village. If you really want an amazing mountain village, try going to Murren. It is on a mountain "terrace" and overlooks the magnificent Alps. On your way to Murren you will be in Interlaken, which is another mountain town settled on a lake. Almost everywhere in Switzerland is connected by the train system, so it is only hours to your next destination. If you really want a sleigh ride and very christmassy feel try going to Zurich. The people decorate the city extremely well. They also have events and cool stuff happening. If you want a really amazing hotel as said before the Bellevue Palace is the place to go. It is Bern's top rated hotel but also very expensive. There is one other hotel called the Allegro Grand Casino Hotel which is only a couple buildings away from the Bellevue Palace. Have a fun time in Bern. Bye

Q: When do you begin decorating for Chirstmas (if you do at all that is)?
This is just the second year in our home and I am wondering when a "appropriate" time to begin decorating for Christmas is. Obviously not this early. I am not a real fan of fall decor or the holiday of thanksgiving so I really don't mind those decorations being taken down prematurly. Last year I began decorating 2 days prior to thanksgiving, and had my tree up (its a fake) and outdoor lights hung two days after. I love the WHOLE Christmas season; and yes I will admit to loving some of the tradional comercialism about it. I feel like 1 month is for decor is barely enough; but at the same time now that we have a daughter I don't want her to take thanksgiving and this whole time of year for granted either.

A: We have a lot of outdoor decor that we do the middle of November when we have nice weather. The inside we do after Thanksgiving. While everyone hits the sales we turn our home into a Christmas Wonderland.

Q: Needed: Information on Electrical Generators for running holiday decorations?
Hi all, First, background. My family does a lot of outdoor decorating for haloween and christmas, a lot. We are trying to determine if it would be more financially responsible to buy a generator to run these lights then normal electricity. We run them for about 4-5 hours a night. Also, what are the basics for actually buying a generator. Any recommended name brands? Certain specs i should pay special attention to? Any help would be appreciated.

A: Financially speaking, unless you have a free source of fuel, buying electricity from the power company is always less expensive than making your own. between the cost of the unit, fuel and maintenance, let alone the noise and the hassle of buying and transporting fuel, the local electric company is a better deal. If you want to save some money on your electric bill, you may be better off signing up for a "time of use" plan with the power company. The plan will give you a huge discount on electricity consumed at night and weekends. The down fall is there is a premium for power consumed during the day. If you are gone during the day, chances are it will pay off. As for good quality generators, Generac (not the one with the Briggs and Stratton engine) makes a great unit, some Honda's are very quiet, but rather expensive. Stay away from the cheap Chinese units, and anything powered by a Briggs engine. Also, be ware of the rating game. Only compare the rated watts, pay no attention to the "surge" watts. This is a rating based on a very low power factor test. Plan on any given unit actually delivering about 80% to 90% of it's rated power.

Q: Too early to decorate?
When is the right date to start decorating a house (the outdoor) with Christmas Lighning decorations? Is it too early ?

A: Only after Thanksgiving is it acceptable to put lights up. Stay strong until then

Q: Christmas Tradition??? ?
My entire life my family wasn't to big on Christmas. We never put outdoor lights up or decorated our tree ( They claim that it was because of our cat) We had a tree-just no decorations... No indoor decorations either. I now have a 9 month old daughter and I want to start to do all this stuff. I just don't know where to start. I want to know what are some of your family traditions are.

A: Thats the best thing about starting your own family. You get to make up your own traditions. You're daughter is small now so she won't really know whats going on. For now just buy a tree and decorate it with simple lights and bulbs. This time next year she will be able to help you, and you will love it. I am the youngest of 5 and our tradition was that being the baby i always put the star on top of the tree. My 5 and 2 yrs old helped me shop for and decorate the tree (All compliments of Wal-mart). Hope you have fun!

Q: People lighting their houses while others were out of power...rude?
My parents were out of power for around 8 days because of that ice storm. I visited them for a few days and 2 of those were days without power. I noticed that people a few miles down the road, who had already gotten their power back, were decking out their homes with Christmas lights, outdoor light up decorations, etc. Now I know it's the season for that, but I found it to be really inconsiderate of them when they knew that there were tons of homes without power. Is it just me, or do you guys think that's rude too? I find it rude because it was if they were being show-offs about it. You can have Christmas cheer without all the snazzy lights, they could have just lit up their tree and it would have been practically the same. You guys wouldn't it a large meal infront of a starving person would you? And since someone asked, I am 21. And yea, I already know I'm immature...all of my friends would agree haha.

A: In a way i feel like both. I feel it's rude because those people know that there are other people around the neighborhood or the city that do not have power and they should not be showing off their power by lighting up their houses like a christmas show. At the same time I feel that they are not rude because like you said It is the season to do that and in their minds the last thing they are thinking about is to offend anybody and they want to make people feel better and happy by lighting up their house. I understand where you are coming from. I would be upset and feel like they are rude too if I was in your situation.

Q: I am in charge of decorating my side of the city for Christmas!?
I belong to a civic group that has been given the go ahead to decorate the sidewalks, light poles and the street medians for Christmas! I am in charge of the decorations and ideas. Some things could be lighted if we need to. Want things that hopefully people wont want to steal but I have no idea what to do! Maybe each median a different 'theme" ? Something large when you hit the sign welcoming people to our city, but not sure what to do! I am frantic! What ideas do you have for outdoor decorating of my city? THANK YOU!!!

A: This may not be an exciting answer, but simple wreaths on the poles. Sidewalks can be an issue because they need to be clear for walking. City code violations need to be considered. You could approach some of the homes and ask to hang window boxes and insert greens. Wiskey barrels with smalls trees can be used in the medians. I am not sure how different themes would go over. Sometimes the simpler, the better and most cost effective. Some oversized plastic colored balls can be hung on existing sparse trees. You can find them at garden centers. This could also be a great place for you to browse for ideas and additional advice. Oh, and of course, the largest lighted tree you can find! Good luck.

Q: all brides or engaged couples or anyone that has been married...?
What time of year did you have your wedding? I was thinking about April (spring) or October (fall) for my wedding but now I have started thinking about maybe Mid November. I love Christmas and I think all of the lights and Christmas decorations would be beautiful. Do you think it is bad to do it in November with all of the holiday stuff going on? also, what about January? Could you still have a Christmas-sy theme then? I live in Georgia. I just can't decide whether to have a nice outdoor wedding in the spring or fall, or to have a "white" christmas wedding in the winter.....

A: Being in the South the weather is less of a concern that up here in Ohio, so that's not a problem. I was married in May, but wanted an October wedding (cousin already had my date! grr). The May wedding was great because of the flowers and such, the october date could have been great too with the lusher colors, but really it comes down to what do YOU want? Yes, halls and chruches start decorating for the holidays and that gets you out of doing some of it yourself, but what if their colors and your's don't go too well. Like if you wanted a 'white christmas' wedding with the elegant whites and golds or silvers, and the hall has the traditional red and greens it may not be the best. Also remember that there are a multitude of shades of greens and reds, not all that play well together. If you are thinking January, skip the holdiay theme - by then everyone is tired of it because we have to see it from October (in stores) right on through the beginning of the year. A winter theme is great, twinkling lights, 'frosty' colors, rich fabrics all add up to an elegant affair. On the other hand if you want it more of a 'fun' time - have a 'snowman' theme! I know GA is not known for snow - but have an imagination. Centerpeices can feature snowman figurines that can be bought inexpensively once they hit the stores, decorate your venue with sleds and mittens, fake snow is easily obtainable too. Whatever you decide - make it your own and be happy!

Q: How long is unopened booze good for? Does storage temps affect it if unopened?
I was getting our Christmas decorations out of the storage containers in our cantina the other day and saw that we still have about 8 bottles from our "bottle shower" friends through us when we got engaged----almost 20 years ago! LOL These bottles have a long history! Hubby stopped drinking so he stored them in our OUTDOOR SHED for about4 or 5 years. They went from summer heat to winter frost and when we moved we just shoved them in the cantina and forgot about them all these years. I would NEVER consume them at this point but I have always wondered if they ARE consumable? There are bottles like Frangelico and Baileys and Grand Marnier and several brandies/whiskeys. If they had been exposed just to cold I probably wouldn't think they would be affected much....but it got really hot in that metal shed in summer. That's hubby for you...he can't drink so he wastes GOOD BOOZE! LOL

A: Every true bottle of alcohol out there should be intact other than the baileys since it contains real cream that would have gone bad years ago. Alcohol does not go bad sitting for extended periods of time nor does it change its composition. Cheers!

Q: How To Tell If You're A Grinch?
Your only contact with three spirits on Christmas Eve is gin, vodka and bourbon. You turn on the lawn sprinklers on Christmas Eve to keep carolers away. You buy all of your Christmas gifts at a store that also sells gas. Your idea of Christmas dinner is a six pack of beer and a cheese log. You use your Christmas Club money to buy wrestling tickets. Your only holiday decoration is a rotting pumpkin. You reuse last year's Christmas cards and send them out under your own name. You steal light bulbs from you neighbor's outdoor display to replenish your own supply. After an invitation to a friend's house, you bring a commercially produced fruitcake and try to pass it off as home made. You steal gifts from the Toys-for-Tots collection bins. You put out last year's stale candy canes for children.

A: ROTFLMAO! A good list! And Happy Christmas to all who read this! Charles "That Cheeky Lad"

Q: I need to know the best place to live!?
I would like to live in a somewhat small town on the east coast of the U.S where I can get a good paying job. I absolutely LOVE winter and summer. Especially the spirit of christmas and being carefree in the summer. In more detail I want to live in a place that has christmas spirit everywhere! For example in those Christmas movies (people on the streets singing christmas carols, outdoor ice skating rinks, horse-drawn carriages and decorations everywhere). I also want my kids to grow up in safe and friendly environment. Pay attention to those details in the beginning (example:east-coast). i know that is a lot to ask but is there such a place? Where?

A: Well, Vermont is very nice. Pretty scenery, cute old towns with lots of antique shops and stuff like that. Some parts of Massachusetts are nice. Upstate New York has a lot of natural beauty, some pretty small towns.
