The two men are discussing the gifts for thier wives, the rich man says " I bought my wife a diamond ring and a new car. The poor man replies, "why the two gifts" the rich man says if she doesn't like the ring she can drive her new car and get something else. other than the obvious, of course! I always have a difficult time shopping for my husband. He really doesn't have hobbies and doesn't need anything for work. A: This is an older practice that seems to have become "outdated" these days. Ironically, I think it would be really nice of you to do it... and for others to follow your example! The gifts can be small! A few chocolates or candies... anything really! The sentiment would be really well received by these folks and I think it would be amazing to many how such a small gesture can make both the recipient and the gift-giver smile! It's little things like this that we have gotten so far away from in our ever-too-busy lives, but it's little things like this that can make all the difference in another person's day! I say "Go for it!" and BIG KUDOS for thinking in such a nice way! R

I have to buy for my dad, my step-day, and my husbands 75 yo grandpa. Men are the hardest to buy for, and I just can't thing of anything. My dad owns ROTO ROOTER. His work is his life, and even my step mom didnt know what to tell me to get him. My step dad like funky gadget kinda stuff. He likes cooking and fishing. My husbands grandpa is old and ill. He sits in a chair and watches tv all day!! What would be great thoughtful presents for them???? Thank you in advance I think this is a hard question.....

A: Older people like simple stuff. My dad is 82 and is happy with candy, fruit, warm blankets, and reading material. Other thoughts for the men- coffee beans/grinder, some funny DVDs, a nice dinner at a restaurant...

A: a watch is a great present for a guy- but a pocket watch is so much more unique. scour antique stores for a really nice one, and then take it to a jeweler to have it engraved with his initials.

A: Well we don't buy a lot of stuff during the year all our spending is always on a needs only basis.We have two or more camping trips this is in place of spending all enjoys those.We invite as many as can come just show up.Family fun in the great outdoors!So Christmas is about the giving to us and our family and to those less fortunate,it is the big event of our year and all share in it.Weather homemade,store bought,makes no difference Everyone gets something.Great pictures and lots of love and fun.It is never extravagant,no one is ever disappointed too much.Merry Christmas to you and yours,I said it early!

A: I think it depends on the age of the woman. If she is young then she would like different things than an older woman. But the rule of thumb for me is this. Don't buy an appliance as that is like saying you want her to do more work. Don't buy her clothes as a woman is alway changing her mind about her appearance. Don't buy her perfume as some women are allergic and some like to pick out their own. Don't buy her underclothes as that is like saying you want to see her in it and it feels like the gift is not for her alone. Don't buy her sex toys as that is tacky. Do your homework and pay attention to what she says. She may have told you already what she wants and you were not paying attention. I find that most men don't. Do buy her something original like a star on line. there is star chart place to name a star after her and they send a fancy paper to frame. Do buy her jewelry and not always diamonds. be more original and find out what the meaning of a stone is and then get the one that you think is closes to her.don't make it a ring or she could get the wrong message instead make it a bracelett or a pendant. Find out if she prefers gold or silver cause not all women like gold or diamonds. Do buy her something like a donation to her favorite charity. Do buy her something like a day trip to a romantic place that is close to home that she would never think of doing. Like a museum or a restaurant with a garden that serves lunch. If you are dating a woman with children then pay for her to go to a spa and find a wonderful babysitter for the day so she can enjoy herself. Surprise her with your originallty and thoughtfulness. That goes alone way to a woman's heart.

Think coaches, male teachers, dad's from their kids, music teachers, male youth group leaders........ I think it's harder for guys. You want to give them something they will use. I need more ideas than the old gift card standby. Also think bulk so keeping it more near or under $10. My kids school struggles with this too for their Christmas store and making things for Fathers Day. So with all those things in mind I am ready for some crafty ideas for making them or for purchase. so let the ideas roll.......... : ) Thank you!

A: Target has a nice selection of cheap christmas gifts for men. They come in red boxes and are usually in the mens department. I usually grab a couple of those for those last minute gifts. The selection is usually $15, $10, and $5. Good luck!

I am attending a christmas party this Saturday, and the invitation said to "please bring a gift to exchange related to this year's party theme: Gingerbread People". I dont want to bring the obvoious gingerbread cookies or food item, I would like to bring something fun and unique. Also, I am assuming it has to be a unisex gift as both men and women will be doing the gift exchange.

Q: Does anyone have any ideas for Christmas gifts for teachers?
Coffee/tea/cocoa samplers have gone over well in the past, but that's getting old, and now that my daughter is in middle school we don't know her teachers as well. There is only one lady teacher, the others are all men. Great answers so far, everyone. Sadie, I meant my idea of coffee samplers was getting old, not the teachers. I'd like to hear from some more teachers too, if possible.

A: I am a teacher and, although I appreciate any gift because that means the student has thought of me, I do really like gift cards, especially to Borders or Barnes and Noble. The other gifts mentioned here are things that we always get and have tons of. Unfortunately, the gifts mentioned prior are those types of gifts that tend to be "regifted" or donated to others.
