Q: How long do you leave your Christmas lights up?
My neighbor is outside right now taking down Christmas lights off of her home. I just thought, at this point, why bother? They have been up for the past 10 months!

A: Well, I am Jewish so we don't put them up but it seems like the families who do take them down just after new year. I can't believe someone leaving them up until now and will be putting them back up in like 8 weeks?! What was the point of that? LOL LOL

Looking for a place for me and my wife to look at Christmas lights on Christmas evening here in Lubbock, Texas. Any help? Looking for lots of houses and lots of great lights.

Q: How do I decorate my balcony with Christmas lights??
I live in apartments, and I've seen how people decorate their back porches with Christmas lights. How are they able to do all of those cute loop designs and plug the lights in? I don't understand how the whole plug-in thing works. I do have an outlet to plug the lights in, but if I wanted to use more lights, would I need and extension cord of some sort? Thanks to all those who reply! Happy Holidays, and God Bless! :)

A: Girl have no fear, you can buy lights that have very nice designs and all kinds of shapes. You will have a ball and if you don't have any outlets simply get an extension cord and plug the lights in. They have many kinds and some with heart and candy canes, trees, icicles. Have fun , and Happy Holidays God Bless You as well!

Q: how much does it cost to have christmas lights hung professionally?
I want to have Christmas lights put up in the Chicago area but I am unable to get up on a ladder this year. I have heard of companies who do this for you but I am curious about how much it costs.

A: It depends on what part of the country you are in, and how many lights you want, as in how long this would take. If you use your own decorations, most houses would be done for $150-200, including removing them after the season.

Q: How do people get Christmas lights to do that?
As I drive home from work through uptown Dallas, the city looks so enchanting with all those Christmas lights. My question is... how do they get lights to wrap all the way around the base of the tree and then move them up each individual branch? Without the lights crossing from one branch to another. I'd like to do my tree in the front yard like this, but unfortunately... I don't know how. Any help would be great!

A: You just use a TON of lights. Wrap them around each branch so that either it ends out on the branch somewhere or comes back down so you can plug the next strand in and start at the base of a new branch. You'll probably need a few extension cords, too, unless you're using LED's or something that will let you plug in more than 3-4 strands together or it's a really small tree. There's a guy in my city that does this on a huge scale in one tree. . . I don't know how many dozens of strands he puts in there, but it's a lot and it takes days of work to put up and then again to take down. Even if you don't do that on nearly that massive scale, expect it to take a while -- wrapping lights around branches is a lot harder than just throwing them up there in random patterns.

Q: How do you tell if Christmas lights are indoor or outdoor once they are out of the package?
I never put my Christmas lights back in the boxes they come in, so this year when I took them out of storage, I don't know which ones I can use outside and which ones I can't....

A: Most of the ones they make now can be used inside or out, if I'm not mistaken. They are low wattage to begin with. The worst that could happen is they blow out when they get wet.

Q: What do you plan to do about this - Scientists warn Christmas lights harm the planet?
Are you planning to take down your Christmas lights?

A: They say that about breathing too. I say it's a false (climate change) religion and I reject it completely. Climate always changes. How arrogant thees climate change believers are to think their puny habits can destroy Gods handiwork. Let them live their faith and leave others alone.

Q: Where Can I Find Cheap Purple Christmas Lights?
I want a purple themed Christmas tree this year. I need purple lights. If it's a 100 bulb strand it has to cost under $6 with cheap shipping. I'm also looking for cheap purple ornaments. I already found some great purple garland at a dollar store. This is my first Christmas tree of my very own. Merry Christmas

A: You shoulda bought them right after Easter! :) Ok, try in-store at Target (you could ask if they have any leftover Easter gear in the back, it's worth a try anyway) or Michael's. Here are some online places: www.christmasdepot.com http://www.purplestore.com/christmasdecor.shtml www.target.com www.michaels.com One more below; good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!

Q: Any tips on video taping Christmas lights?
Every year I try to record the Christmas light displays in my neighborhood with my digital video camera, but every year my recordings don't come out very well. They either come out blurry or shaky or with too much contrast (in other words, you can see the lights but nothing else). Any tips? Thanks guys, you rock!

A: Well it sounds like youve been recording in auto. Give manual a try (if you have the functions) and adjust shutter speed at its lowest to 1/15 (most cams go down to 1/60 in manual), and then tweak your aperture and gain to get a good picture. Unfortunately, "high contrast" as you called it, is pretty much inevitable, unless you have a pro cam with 1/3 inch CCDs, so depending on how much detail you want to see where, you can expose for the lights, or for the surrounding areas, but you wont get a perfect exposure for both, only one at a time. Also, be aware that high levels of gain will increase noise. Hope this helps!

Q: Is there such an item? i need something that is similar to christmas lights?
It has to be able to bend and be shaped like christmas lights. the flexibility. I am trying to spell words with lights and be able to turn them on soley with a flick of a switch. Something that isn't too costly? Is there such an item?

A: garden lights garden section of Target

Q: What is a good neighborhood to go to walk around and look at Christmas lights.?
I just moved out to Orange County, and I was wondering if anyone knew of good neighborhoods that are all decked out in Christmas lights. I don't mind having to park somewhere and just walking around the streets. I actually prefer to walk around and admire the decorations. Thanks!

A: You can find a Decorated home near you on these: http://www.TackyLightTour.com http://www.ChristmasDisplays.net http://www.ChristmasLightFinder.com http://www.SantaStars.com ------ http://mississippichristmas.com/otherslights.html

Q: How can I buy good, decent christmas lights?
I put my Christmas tree up tonight, and went to put the lights on. After I had them strung, they went out! They worked in the stores, but now they don't. Please tell me I'm not the only one that has this problem every year.

A: http://www.planetchristmas.com/vendors.htm LEDs are the newest thing in lighting and they do not look to be leaving any time soon. There are as many different quality LED products as there prices. It seems to be the consensus of the members of the http://www.PlanetChristmas.com forum that the best place to buy LED lights are from http://www.CreativeDisplays.com Action LIghting is another good source. I have purchased from both vendors and can vouch for both. If you are interested in conventional lights, the favorite brand are the energy savers sold by Target. You can get more lights in a series than other brands because they are a lower wattage without a lower quality (at the same price). The word on the street is to avoid the Walmart Blue minis due to quality issues.

Q: What can I do with broken Christmas lights besides throwing them away?
I have a bunch of old broken Christmas lights. Is there a use for them besides throwing them away? I don't want to have something useful to go to a landfill. Thanks Edit: By old I meant a couple years old

A: I dunno, but my aunty treats them like rope. She used to tie them against bushes for her plants to prevent them from going on the sidewalks. But be sure to remove the bulbs....

Q: What would be the best way to mount (not permanently) christmas lights on a wall?
I'm having a party and I want to hang christmas lights on the wall and ceiling inside my house. I need to be able to take them down without damage to the wall. I was just wondering if anyone knew a cheap and effective way to make them stay during the party without damaging the wall when they come down. Thanks!

A: 3M clips http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Command/home/us_en/products/decorating_clips/ When you want to take them down just pull out the putty, save the clips and get refills next year. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Command/home/us_en/how_use/
