Q: Hanging Christmas lights on brick?
I live in an apartment. I do not have gutters that i can get to. I would like to hang some christmas lights in the brick archway over my porch. What is the best thing to hang lights from on brick?
A: If you are looking for a means that is secure and weather-resistant then I'd make a trip to the hardware store for the small hooks designed just for brick. They are heavy-duty plastic (usually white but paintable) with three, tiny metal spikes sticking out of them and you simply hammer the spikes into the mortar between the bricks. Since you wouldn't need but maybe three to five, they can be easily pried out with a flat screwdriver at the end of the season. Note: They will leave a small chip in the mortar that can be patched, if need be, with a tube of cement patch. I think that wind, rain and snow would pull down lights attached to brick with tape but I'm not the one who gave a "thumbs down" to previous answers. lol
Q: Hanging christmas lights outside?
Ok, i like to go all out for christmas, at least lights wise, nothing tacky. but i can never get them to hang the way i want them to. For instance, how do you light up stairs, and a multi-pitched roof, or windows? PLease help :)

get some of those cheapy and as you ravel your lights put them on first, then as you unravel the cord they'll already be attached and you just peel and stick - i think they even sell some that are green for the holidays
Q: Will you be hanging Christmas lights this year--or cutting back to try to go green?
I know my electric bill goes up about $100 during the holiday month. That's a bunch of watts! Maybe I will scale back for the bill the the green factor. How 'bout you. Ever try those LED lights?
We have propane heat--so it"s not keeping warm making the electric bill bigger!
A: mine r up already

Q: Will you be hanging Christmas lights this year?
With the economy the way it is, will you still be hanging your lights (if you normally do)?
We did but the timer has been bumped up; they won't be staying on as late as normal (each night).
A: With the economy the way it is we will only be hanging lights on our tree this yr. And they will only run from 4 pm til 8 pm then they will go off. We use to deco our trees outside but not this yr except for garland on them thats all.And you know my boss at the party store puts up 8 trees in her house one in every room and if its 6 ft or a bit taller it has about 4 strands of lights, Thats crazy if you ask me. Theres enjoying christmas then theres going overkill
Anyone besides me done christmas shopping yet?..lol I finished the Middle of November hehe" Ducks the flying coffee cups and pillows IM sure will get sent myway"
Q: What is that adjustable tool for hanging exterior Christmas lights?
I saw a commercial (not an infomercial) for this tool a few nights ago, but now I can't remember what its called or find anything online that looks like it. It is advertised as being the perfect tool to hang exterior lights from either the roof or gutter, or both (not sure). It looked like a great idea and I want to learn more about it, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called! If you know what I am talking about... please help!
Thanks!!!
A: It is called a telescoping pole and is available at Target, Meijer, Ace Hardware and Lowes.

Q: Hanging Christmas Lights in my room?
I was thinking about hanging Christmas lights in my room, like in a band near the ceiling. Is that a good idea? And how would I do that?
A: I think it's a good idea, as long as you're able to do it safely. Just don't get those "icicle" lights, I hear they catch fire easily.
Usually, Christmas lights are three wires coiled together, so you can hang them with thumb tacks by putting the tacks *in between* the wires, but whatever you do, do not stick a thumb tack through/into a wire. Let the wires coil around the tack. If it's the kind that just has one wire, rest it on top of the tack, or tie dental floss around the wire and loop the floss onto the tack.
It helps to plug them in when you start hanging them, so you know it will be able to reach an outlet once hung. This probably increases your risk of shock so once you've measured and set up the beginning, unplug it and finish hanging.
Q: where did hanging Christmas lights up originate?
and why did they start doing it?
A: Ah don't worry about that.Think about it later!Have some fun now because Christmas comes once in a year so enjoy it to the fullest!
Merry Christmas,dear.

Q: Is there any danger in hanging christmas lights around a window?
Just wondering...and it's indoors around three windows on a second story. I didn't think there was any reason to worry but my mother in law swears it's unsafe. But my family has done it for years.
A: thousands of families have done it for years, and still do it. As long as they are good lights, bought from a reputable merchant and comply with all safety requirements, put them up, and enjoy them.
Q: How do you hang Christmas lights on high trees outdoors?
I want to hang lights in a large tree but I cannot reach. I see lots of homes with lights high in trees but I cannot figure a good way to do it.
A: Use a tall ladder.
Q: How to hang Christmas Lights outside around door and windows?
How do you hang lights around doors and windows. Do you use suction cups? Also how do you get a clean line of lights around all windows. Some people have their house perfectly outlined where there is no cross over of lights in places they shouldn't be. They perfectly outline every window and door without it looking sloppy.
Really Staples.......I don't know if I like that idea. Sounds like it will leave marks. My window frames aren't wood they are metal.
A: If you are hanging the lights from the inside, you can use suction hooks for windows. If you are hanging the lights outside and there is brick; you can use "brick clips" which can be found at Lowes & other Hardware stores. Both are use for temporally use & can be used for years.
Q: What can I use to hang Christmas lights on stucco??
I have a house that is stucco, and I have been trying to hang lights all day. I am using double pointed staples, (they are not like normal staples) but they just keep popping out. Maybe from the weight of the lights. Any suggestions on what to use to hang the lights????
i am hanging these lights on the outside of the house....
A: Try using a hot glue gun to glue plastic hooks or something else to it. It should work but probably not good for the stucco if you keep doing it.
Q: Is it too early to hang Christmas lights?
I plan on hanging our lights on Nov. 11th but I won't turn them on until after Thanksgiving. Will this look tacky? It gets really cold here and I'm afraid it will be too cold to hang them after Thanksgiving.
What do you think?
A: No one will notice unless you actually turn them on.
Of course, if you intend to put a fleet of reindeer on your roof pulling Santa on a Harley, a barnyard full of wire mesh critters in your front yard with a multi-story, inflated snow-globe, ya might wanna hold off a bit.
Oh yeah. . . & here's something else you need to consider:

Q: Hanging Christmas Lights on Walls.?
Question what could we use to hang christmas lights on a gym wall without peeling the paint or having to hang them from the ceiling? Last time they used ugly black tape it looked horrible but I was told that it was one of the only kinds that would not peel the paint.
A: 3M has hooks that don't leave any marks on walls when they are removed,
http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Command/home/us_en/products/hooks/
you could also use good quality suction cups for heavy duty tasks.
Q: Is it safe to hang christmas lights on a wall with electric tape?
I want to decorate the walls with christmas lights, and I want a safe way to do it without having to drill holes for hooks.
PLEASE READ ALSO: Are there any clips/hooks out there that I could use to hang up christmas lights on the walls with out effecting the surface of my walls? Maybe ones that have a surface safe adhesive? Thanks!
A: if tape you must, use strapping tape or that thick plastic box tape. electrical tape will not hold for very long.
changes in humidity will affect how it sticks.
if push pins,careful...
Q: How do you hang Christmas lights outside on brick?
I want to hang the lights from the brick part of the garage. Since I had my house painted, I hesitate to put staples into the wood.
A: Here is the easiest and safest way for your house.
You will need to have two or three holes in the wood/brick parts. Go to the home improvement store, and purchase furring strips 1x2 you can get them in 8' and 10' lengths. Use the furring strips as you would the siding, and attach your lights on it.
Hope this help, and I explained it OK.
