Q: Has anyone ever done an ornament exchange party for the Christmas holiday?
I would like some ideas. Did you involve children too? Please help!
A: Yes! It was sooo much fun. I have done it twice.
Neither time involved Children, but you certainly could.
The first time I did it with my faculty at school. We set a 10 dollar limit on the ornament and then drew numbers. We started with #1 and went until everyone had an ornament. The person could take a previously opened ornament or open a new one. An ornament could only be taken 3 times and the person who had it then kept it. I got some really cute Gingerbread men and women.
The second time was with our women's group at church. Many of the ornaments were handmade. And we did it the same way.
I like it because everyone gets something plus I have a Christmas ornament fetish!
Good Luck I am sure you will have fun any way that you do it.

Q: i want to getmy boyfriend a mini christmas tree for his room, and put little ornaments on it?
is that too dorky?, i want to get him into the christmas spirit a bit cause i love the holidays
A: I think that's cute.
Q: What is your favorite Christmas ornament?
I know it's early but I just purchased tickets to go home for the Holidays and it got me thinking.
A: My favorite Christmas ornament is the ones that I helped put on the tree as a child. My siblings & I use to fight (argue) over which one of a ceramic (bone china) set of 12 little bell ornaments we would put up with my parents help. They were only 2" tall, & had a Santa (which was the major one we fought over), Santa's wife, Rudolf,& some angels/carolers/elves. We loved the tinkle each bell made. My parents still have them minus one which broke! Now my siblings & I will fight over who inherits them. Ha Ha
The one other favorite is the 1st ornament I bought for my parents. A female ballet dancer that twirls. I was so proud of my choice & so happy to give it to them.
You see, any ornament that has an emotional, sentimental attachment, reminding us of our innocent youth tends to be the most precious! I know, I'm just an ole' softie.
Q: Help finding a holiday ornament?
my friend had a favorite christmas ornament that she (oops!) broke yesterday. i have never seen it before but i want to find a similar one to replace hers. this is how she described it;
* frosted glass earth (its a globe ornament)
* had a gold metal banner above it that said "peace on earth"
*the banner was decorated with snowflakes
i searched around for a while and found this
http://www.linmartreasures.com/-strse-2388/Peace-On-Earth-Glass/Detail.bok
but its not anything like what she described. can you help me find a better one???
cause some people are really good at finding things on the internet!
i dont care where it is from, it can be from ebay or something

A: Is this it?

Q: Why do people businesses use the terms " Happy Holidays" when they're showing hints of 1 particlular holiday?
People use these terms " Happy Holidays" when they have pictures of Christmas ornaments in the background. Can't people and business say what they celebrate to people like for example: Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, or Happy Hanukkah. I can't stand it when they are so vague in using "happy holidays". What's so offensive back listing specific holidays? Stores have christmas pictures all over the place but they use "happy holidays". I don't see too many hanukkah pictures or too many kwanzaa things drawn. It just make things sound more vague and unclear. If I hear the quote " happy holidays" (when they play Christmas music) or see "happy holidays" (when they have a particular holiday's pictures of TV) I want to just destroy something. We've got to fight this battle guys and try to stop it where its at RIGHT NOW!!! Bye.
A: Who cares? Anymore I try to avoid mentioning the holidays at all, because no matter what I say someone, somewhere is going to be offended. It's ridiculous.
Q: Do you like Christmas names?
As in Noelle, Candy, Mistle(as in Mistletoe), Tree, Ornament, Stocking, Rosemary, Christmas, Holiday, Present, Belle...etc.
Thanks
A: they are gay
Q: Is the holiday collectible industry lost the the fast pace society we live in?
I own a small Holiday gift shop in Wisconsin called Christmas-N-More and I'm seeing more people getting away from the history of our holiday traditions and just buying stuff with no meaning to it at all. I carry all the holiday decorations from Germany, Poland, Russian, ornaments with special sayings, hand blown and beautifully done, but it seems to me that people aren't that interested in carrying on the traditions of our fathers and where they came from. I have a web site and sometimes I even have to sell on Ebay and Gocollect to generate some sales. I'm really thinking about closing my doors. Please, let me hear from you I would like to know that I'm not the only one that loves the traditions of the holidays past.
A: its the fast paced throw-away society we live in. why bother storing all those unique items that will see use for one month (optimistic) out of a year when we can buy chinese and throw away? its sad to see, but people have more interest in getting through the holidays than they do enjoying them

Q: How should we decorate our first Christmas tree?
My husband (aka Mr. Scrooge) had a holiday moment and bought us our first Christmas tree (we got married in April). Can anyone give us any ideas of how we should decorate it?
Colors
Original ideas (I know...light, popcorn, ornaments...)
We are not set on any colors but would like something modern and simple.
Thanks!
A: As uch as the colored lights and plastic canvas ornaments are wonderful, they are more child like. I think if you are a young couple who is celebrating your first christmas together, you should go for clear lights, and glass.gold.silver ornaments. It is a VERY classic and clean crisp look. You could even string glass beads on it instead of garland. They also have really really cute ornaments out this year that are words. NOEL, PEACE and stuff like that. I have seen them in silver glitter gold glitter and red glitter. Congrats on your first Xmas together and may it be the first of a string of forevers!
Q: What ever happened to the phrase "Merry Christmas"?
I was out of town over the weekend and was shopping for a souvenir and came upon Christmas ornaments. None of them said "Merry Christmas," but only, "Season's Greetings," or "Happy Holidays."
Shouldn't the winter celebration of Christmas be called what it is; Merry and Christmas? Who else has a pine tree in their home during the winter to celebrate Christmas but people who celebrate Christmas?
Aren't some things obviously related to people who would prefer something having, "Merry Christmas," engraved on cards and ornaments?
Anyone else bothered by this?
A: I am very bothered by this. The Christians no longer have any rights. On the government level, there is no reference to any religion because of separation of church and state. Freedom of religion means that we can worship (or not) in any way we wish. Just look at the middle east--the government is run by religious fanatics where when the Taliban was ruling Afghanistan, men were no allowed to smile in public and women needed to wear borkas. In the US, we are not allowed to pray. If you wear a cross, some schools districts say that that is not proper attire for school. Yet, a female muslim can wear a veil and that is okay--which is a symbol of their religion, just like a cross. Get this--the University of Michigan is installing foot baths for muslims. My tax dollars are paying for that?
Since December 25th is the date honored by Americans as the birth of Christ, I think every court, city hall, congress, house of reps, the white house, should be open that day. All firefighters and police officers that day should get paid regular pay, not holiday pay. By acknowledging 12/25 as a Christian holiday and not a significant date in American history, then they should also be allowed to put up a manger scene. If they want the day off with pay, use a vacation day.
Whenever a store clerk says Happy Holidays to me, I say "Happy Holy Day to you"
God Bless...
Q: How can I decorate an office for the Holidays?
Question Details: Hello everyone! I am trying to decorate my office for the holidays. We can't set a Christmas tree because we don't have enough space in the office, but my coworker suggested to hand Christmas ornaments from the ceiling (like red and gold maybe, the cute loking ones, not the tacky ones, lol). Now, his idea was to maybe put one red, the "something" in the middle and then a gold one and make like a line of 18 total. Anyways, do you have any idea what that "something about 1ft tall" could be? Do u have a better idea? Mind you, The place to be decorated is a travel agency and we don't want to go overboard on the money, space or Christmas decoration since one of my other coworkers is muslim. Please give me some ideas as I am heading to the stores this afternoon.
Another thing that I forgot is that the walls are white, so is the ceiling, so we need something that can be seen. I am saying this because I proposed glitter snowflakes to be the something larger hanging but we all agree that it will not be contrasting.
We don't have windows. I mean, we do, but we are on a 6th floor.
A: Considering the white walls and a muslim coworker, I would probably go with a winter wonderland type of theme. Try using light blues, silvers, greys, and the white as you basic colouring. The office is a great place to decorate because of the tools you have to use. Try finding objects on line to print out, duplicate and hang (ie, snowflakes, lodgehouses, trees). You also most probably have windows which you can spray white in the corners like some other businesses do. If you do hang garland or ornaments from the cieling keep them light. Try hangin them from different lengths. One idea I used was to print out letters spelling a phrase like "Happy Holidays", or " Ho, Ho, Ho" and framed each letter in a decrotive or contempory fram and hang them for a larger display to take up some wall space. Good luck!!!
Q: Then why can't we have Christmas trees?
I just asked a question about whether or not "Christmas" is offensive, and got 30 responses saying "no". Then why can't we have Christmas pageants, Christmas trees, Christmas ornaments, Christmas wreaths, etc. Why do we have to take Christ out of the holidays, when 90% of the country celebrates Christmas?
And to the liberals who were so offended that I suggested it was them who were against "Christmas", who do you think pushed this country in the anti-Christmas direction? And if you don't think this country has been pushed in an anti-Christmas direction, please tell me when the last time was that you saw a Christmas pageant.
A: I agree. I think that all those who are offended by anything CHRISTmas should not take the time off work, either, since they are enjoying time that should be spent in Christmas observance.
